It is a great pleasure to be with you at this meeting on the ethics of
lawyers, which the Council of Europe has organised in the context of the
ADACS programmes, and which the Czech Bar has been so kind as to host as
a follow-up to the meeting held in Budapest in 1997 on the role and
responsibilities of the lawyer in a society in transition. What is new about this
meeting is that the Bars in all the Council of Europe member and applicant
countries have been invited to attend.
